“Success is a journey, not a destination.”
Like many rising actors, the journey to stardom is not an easy one. The same can be said for Malaysian-born Lawrence Wong, who made the decision to leave Malaysia for China two years ago to expand his career.
After moving to China, Lawrence Wong’s role as the imperial guard in the very popular Chinese series, “The Story of Yanxi Palace” witnessed him bagging not one, but two international accolades in a span of four days! The most recent one is the Best Supporting Award at the 14th Chinese American TV Festival in New York.
What’s more touching is how this Johorean shared the news on social media, dedicating it to his late mother.
“Look mum, I got an award again. I hope you could see this and be proud of me.”
He often voiced his regrets that his mother was unable to see his current accomplishments as she had passed away two years ago. However, he said he’d text his father immediately about the awards.
The award was Lawrence’s second award after bagging Asia’s Most Promising Actor Award four days prior at the 2018 Asian-American Television and Film Festival Golden Oak Award.
During his first award, Lawrence wrote “I was once lost in my career, but now I’m Asia’s Most Promising Actor.”
Lawrence Wong plays Hai Lan Cha in the “Story of Yanxi Palace”, which racked up a whopping 530 million views in China’s streaming platform iQiyi. The show centres upon Palace intrigues, backstabbing concubines and dramatic plot lines involving maids and eunuchs.
Well done Lawrence! You definitely made us all proud!
