On 23 September 2020, Malaysia won the ‘Health and Medical Tourism: Destination of the Year’ award. This is the fourth time Malaysia has received this award.
The award was announced at the 2020 Medical Tourism Award ceremony in London. Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah dedicated the award to all the stakeholders in Malaysia’s healthcare sector.
As reported by Bernama, the health DG expressed his gratitude in a Facebook post, “Once again my heartiest congratulations to the entire team,” he said.
The Malaysian Health Tourism Council (MHTC) said by receiving the award, the country’s position as the world’s healthcare marvel is enhanced. The win also reflects the devoted commitment from levant organisations in ensuring dedicated health care amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
The MHTC also continued the winning streak with receiving their fourth ‘Cluster of the year’ award. This win was dedicated to the firm public-private partnerships that have been essential to Malaysian Healthcare’s thriving growth in the past few years.
A few private Malaysian healthcare institutions received awards at the prestigious event too. Among them were Sunway Fertility Centre (International Fertility Clinic of the Year); Prince Court Medical Centre (International Hospital of the Year); Sunway Eye Centre (International Eye Clinic of the Year); and Thompson Hospital Kota Damansara (Best Quality Initiative).
