Since the beginning of the pandemic, visits to the mall have become very rare. Bukit Bintang, known for being busy every day all year round has now become a desolate cityscape.
As many KL residents know, the Bukit Bintang area is home to popular malls including Pavillion Kuala Lumpur, The Starhill, Farenheit88, Lot 10 and many more. Recently, netizens were shocked to come across pictures of the area looking completely deserted. The populated streets that were once bustling with life appeared to now be quiet and empty as seen in a recent post by Malaysia Shopping Malls.
The post said that the photos were posted at 3-4pm on 20 July, which was also notably the celebration of Hari Raya Haji.
The Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) that restricted all other services except essential services to operate has taken a toll on shops including shopping malls. Although more SOPs have been relaxed, some members of the public remain sceptical about visiting malls as the cases in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor continue to rise.
Hopefully, the cases will begin receding and everyone gets vaccinated so we can go back to the hustle and bustle of the city!
