As Ramadan season marches forward, many Malaysians are taking the time to reflect on what this spiritual period of time means to them. For one local politician however, ushering in Ramadan by extending a hand of goodwill has made a sincere impact on just what it means to build a solid community regardless of race or background.
Minister of Youth and Sports Hannah Yeoh recently shared a TikTok video to her page @hannahyeohmp of a sizeable contribution she made to a mosque located in Segambut, a district where she also serves as the Member of Parliament (MP) for. In the clip, Yeoh revealed that her office has given RM50,000 to Masjid Al Firdaus to aid in the upkeep and development of their grounds.
According to Yeoh, the funds her office provided, alongside an unstipulated amount that was raised by the congregation of the mosque, will be used to upgrade the surrounding of the holy ground as well as be used to aid in organising specific programmes.
Primarily, the funds were used to improve a kitchen located within the mosque, thereby allowing officials from Masjid Al Firdaus to save on funds that had previously been used to settle catering costs. At the very end of the TikTok video, Yeoh also provided images displaying what the kitchen of the mosque looked like before and after the donations were used for the refurbishment.
Garnering a very positive response online, many people praised Yeoh for her office’s contribution to the mosque, emphasising not only how important it was for their upkeep, but that it was also a display on her excellence as an MP for Segambut.
