So, it’s been a while since people have realised that they have to dress in long pants or skirts (basically not wearing shorts) in order to enter government buildings or local council offices.
Considering many have yet to get that memo, some local councils are now taking the initiative to prepare alternative outfits at their entrances for people who show up in shorts.
DSMEGROUP recently took to their TikTok page to showcase a man putting on a sarung provided by the Kuala Selangor Municipal Council (MPKS) at their entrance for people who do not follow their dress code.
They wrote, “The best!!! The dress code at the Kuala Selangor Municipal Council (MPKS).”
In the video, a security guard could be seen sitting at a desk at the entrance of MPKS, where on the desk were sarungs and batik cloths.
A man could also be seen putting on a sarung at the entrance as he had worn shorts to the municipal building.
Someone could then be heard explaining that the batik cloths are for women whereas the sarungs are for men.
While many praised MPKS for upholding their dress code, others questioned the purpose of a dress code and pointed out that council officers and staff should focus on doing their jobs instead of what visitors are wearing.
“Good. This is an office, not a market. You must dress appropriately.”
“I agree, we must dress appropriately at our government offices.”
“What is the purposes of this? Do logical things and develop the country’s economy.”
“(The staff should be) doing work, not looking at what people are wearing.”
“Must follow the rules. But at the counters, there is no one. At 8 in the morning, there is no one to be seen. At 8:15am they will be hanging out at the mamak.”
