As a child growing up, getting ice cream from the neighborhood ice cream man was always a treat. But who would’ve thought that ice cream men have certain people they won’t sell to?
User @preeyangka23 took to her TikTok to share an incident that happened while she was spending a sunny day at the beach with her family at Pantai Remis, Kuala Selangor, where she described it as a “heartbreaking experience”.
Speaking to WORLD OF BUZZ, Preeyangka emphasized that the intention behind the video is not to harm anyone but simply to raise awareness and educate others that stereotyping isn’t the way to go.
In the video, she describes how her nephews and nieces wanted to buy ice cream. However, when they approached the ice cream man, they were surprised to find out that he refused to sell it to them.
Preeyangka then shared how the ice cream man refused to sell them ice cream because she and her family were Indian. Making matters worse, the reason behind the ice cream man’s decision was displayed on his motorbike for everyone to see.
She also explained that the ice cream man had a previous altercation with a group of drunk Indians who had caused trouble at his shop, which is why he refused to sell ice cream to Preeyangka and her family.
“My nieces and nephews are just kids who want ice cream. They’re not going to get drunk and attack you.”
Preeyangka then shared how a Malay family who was also at the beach at the time, was kind enough to buy ice cream for her nieces and nephews.
She expressed her hope that stereotypes could be broken, adding,
“Just don’t assume that all of us drink and invite trouble.”
She concluded the video with advice for all Indians to behave responsibly and maintain a positive reputation, particularly when consuming alcohol in public.
Despite the ice cream man’s actions, it’s also been reported that the man allegedly posted an apology video following the incident.
