Data from Booking.com, one of the world’s largest online travel agencies, has revealed an interesting shift in the most popular global travel destinations among Australians.

As shared by the Australian-based news portal Nine.com, usual favourites such as Fiji and Indonesia’s Bali are no longer among the top 10 most searched international flights among Australians, with Kuala Lumpur taking the crown as their most popular global travel destination!

In fact, searches for international flights to the Malaysian capital city among Australians have tripled in number since this time last year, cementing Kuala Lumpur’s place at the top of the list.

Nine.com added that Kuala Lumpur’s popularity among Australians is further aided by new non-stop flights operating from Sydney, Melbourne and Perth.

Meanwhile, Christchurch, New Zealand, which is just a 3-hour flight away from Sydney, takes the second spot on the list. Making up the top five are Vietnam’s Ho Chi Minh City in third, India’s Mumbai in fourth and China’s Guangzhou in fifth.
