“Best of the best” – Kuala Lumpur Named World’s 10th Trending Travel Destination in 2024

Kuala Lumpur has just been named as the world’s 10th most trending destination on the 2024 Travelers’ Choice Awards Best of the Best by the global online travel information and booking platform TripAdvisor.

Lauded as the cultural hub of Malaysia, TripAdvisor said that Kuala Lumpur is visually defined by the iconic Petronas KLCC Twin Towers which the listing touted as the “vision of modern architecture”.

Furthermore, TripAdvisor also noted the Malaysian capital’s dichotomy, whereby alongside modern buildings such as the KLCC Twin Towers, there are also structures such as the Sri Mahamariamman, the oldest Hindu temple in Malaysia with its facade described as “a colourful totem pole of iconography”.

Besides that, the 2024 Travelers’ Choice Awards Best of the Best also highlighted Kuala Lumpur’s Central Market as offering a joyful shopping experience that involves haggling, handicrafts.

In the World Trending Destinations category of the 2024 Travelers’ Choice Awards Best of the Best, 8 destinations in Asia, including Kuala Lumpur made it to the top 10, with 6 of them being in Southeast Asia.

The number 1 trending destination in the rankings is Tokyo, with Seoul, Halong Bay, Palawan Island and Sapa making up the top 5.

Here’s the full top 10 rankings for the World Trending Destinations category:

  1. Tokyo, Japan
  2. Seoul, South Korea
  3. Halong Bay, Vietnam
  4. Palawan Island, the Philippines
  5. Sapa, Vietnam
  6. Bogota, Colombia
  7. Pattaya, Thailand
  8. Alajuela, Costa Rica
  9. Phnom Penh, Cambodia
  10. Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Besides the World Trending Destinations Category, the 2024 Travelers’ Choice Awards Best of the Best also ranked world travel destinations by 6 other categories, including Top Destinations, Nature Destinations, Food Destinations, Culture Destinations, Honeymoon Destinations and Sustainable Destinations.

TripAdvisor asserted that winners in the awards are destinations whose hotels, restaurants and things to do received a high volume of above-and-beyond reviews and opinions from our community over a 12-month period.

Furthermore, fewer than 1% of Tripadvisor’s 8 million listings are awarded Best of the Best, signifying the highest level of excellence in travel.
