KLK Land, in partnership with Footballhub, recently announced the opening of a new football field within the Bandar Seri Coalfields township. To celebrate, Footballhub hosted the inaugural Merdeka League on Merdeka Day (31 August) to much fanfare from the community.
The Merdeka League saw over 50 teams competing across multiple categories divided into age groups: U8, U10, U12, U14, and U16, with an estimated 1,500 attendees over two days. Gold, silver and bronze medals were awarded to the champions, runner-ups and third/fourth-placed teams; the champion also won a trophy for conquering the league, while every other player received a participating medal.

This initiative highlights the commitment of Kuala Lumpur Kepong Berhad (KLK)’s property development arm to community development and enhancing local amenities. As part of the Malaysian conglomerate KLK, which employs 50,000 people worldwide, KLK has expanded beyond its core plantation business, which began in 1906, into resource-based manufacturing and property development. They’ve since built more than a few premium neighbourhoods across Klang Valley, such as Sierramas, Desa Coalfields, Caledonia in Ijok, and the titular Bandar Seri Coalfields.
