DBKL, once again, in an official statement today (March 30), responded to the viral balloon vendor issue.

In its statement, DBKL said they have suspended the three enforcement officers involved from duties to make way for the ongoing investigation.

Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Seri Dr Maimunah Mohd Sharif said this was taken to pave the way for an internal investigation to be conducted by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL).

She said the action was also to enable the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) to conduct an independent, transparent, and comprehensive investigation without any interference.

“DBKL views this incident seriously and will not compromise with any form of misconduct by employees if proven guilty, especially those that affect the integrity and public trust in enforcement institutions.”

Maimunah said that DBKL remains committed to upholding governance that is integrity-based, responsible, and based on the principle of justice for all parties.

“Any decision will be determined after the full investigation is complete.”

Maimunah added that the Executive Director (Socio-Economics) and the Director of the Enforcement Department, also representing DBKL, had visited balloon trader Muhamad Za’imuddin Azlan, who is currently receiving treatment in hospital.

DBKL will also consider covering the costs of Muhamad Za’imuddin’s treatment throughout the treatment period, subject to further review and current medical needs.

“We call on all parties to refrain from speculating, to enable the authorities to conduct a detailed investigation into this case,” she said.
