In a step towards rebuilding the tourism industry, Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin (KJ) shared that those travelling to Langkawi for tourism by land would still need to obtain a travel letter from the police in order to pass through state roadblocks.
Now, KJ has shared that all tourists heading to Langkawi will need to take Covid-19 tests before their travels.
He took to his Twitter profile to share the news.
He wrote, “The Langkawi Bubble Tourism pilot project needs to be implemented with caution. Therefore, every tourist who will be taking a holiday in Langkawi starting 16 September must undergo a Covid-19 detection test before departure.”
This move comes in order to prevent case numbers from rising and new clusters from forming.
Hence, all travelers must take a Covid-19 detection test (RT-PCR or RTK-Antigent) at any health facility or private laboratory 48 hours before their departure. The test results must then be brought along with them during their travels.
Travelers can also purchase saliva tests to be brought along for testing at the designated screening area in airports and ferry terminals, or have them purchased at the screening areas prepared by private parties at the above mentioned locations, as shared in KJ’s statement.
