A kakak in Terengganu is the only Malaysian out of 43 individuals in the world who has a unique Rhnull blood type or better known as the Golden Blood. Before we go further, what is this so-called Golden Blood? Well, according to MedicineNet, this blood group contains no Rh antigens (proteins) on the red blood cell (RBC) which makes this group the rarest in the world.
As shared by the Terengganu Kite Blood Donation Facebook page, the Golden Blood that is donated by the woman will be sent to the National Blood Centre in Kuala Lumpur to be frozen first. Then the blood will be stored in a nitrogen box with a temperature as low as -80 degrees Celsius for 10 years. The post elaborated,
“If there are patients who need this type of blood, then this blood will be diluted for use.”

Currently, there are only nine active donors of this type of blood and this kakak is one of them. Kudos to the kakak for taking the right step in ensuring those who have a similar blood type as her can benefit from the blood donation in the future.
