Following the passing of Queen Elizabeth II who had the longest-verified reign of a female head of state in history, the United Kingdom recently saw the coronation of its new monarch, King Charles III.
World leaders and other monarchs around the globe attended the once-in-a-generation ceremony in London, including His Majesty Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al Sultan Abdullah Ri’Ayatuddin Al Mustafa Billah Shah Ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Al Musta’in Billah.
The YDPA and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah are currently in London since 3 May for a special visit in conjunction with the ceremony which also showcased the close diplomatic ties between Malaysia and the United Kingdom.
In fact, both the YDPA and King Charles III are actually long-time friends, with both knowing each other since their teenage years.
As shared by the Istana Negara Facebook page, both monarchs have had a close relationship over the past 40 years or so, ever since they met each other while playing polo in London and in other international competitions.
The post also shared several photos of the YDPA and King Charles III together during the former’s recent special visit and when they were younger.
The post asserted that the special visit is very significant in the context of strengthening the existing close ties between Malaysia and the UK, especially between both nations’ Royal Institutions as well as the ties within the Commonwealth.
