An Indonesian man landed himself in trouble with the Singaporean authorities for an obscene act he did while on board a flight to the country on 23 January.

In a news release by the Singapore Police Force (SPF), the 23-year-old suspect allegedly exposed his genitals to a female cabin crew member while on board the aircraft and recorded the whole exchange with his smartphone.

SPF added that it was alerted to the incident and once the aircraft landed at Changi Airport, the man was arrested by officers from the Airport Police Division.

Investigations by the SPF revealed that during the flight, the suspect, whilst seated at this seat, had allegedly unzipped his pants and exposed his genitals, and then covered himself with a blanket.

The news release further elaborated,

“He (the suspect) then set up his smartphone and switched it to video recording mode. When a female cabin crew approached him to serve his meal, the man purportedly removed the blanket and exposed his genitals to her in full view.”

Following this, the female crew member quickly left the man’s seat and reported the matter to her supervisor.

When the SPF Airport Police Division arrested the suspect at Changi Airport, his smartphone was seized for investigation.

The man will be charged in court on 12 March with the offence of sexual exposure under Section 377BF of the Singapore Penal Code 1871 read with Sec 3 (1) of the Tokyo Convention Act 1971.

If convicted, the suspect may face imprisonment of up to one year, a fine or both.

SPF thus issued a warning that it takes a firm stance against sexual offenders who commit indecent acts that cause alarm, distress and harassment to others, whether on the aircraft or in public.
