Trigger warning: This article contains details of child abuse that readers may find upsetting.

Megan Khung was severely abused. She was left hungry, not given proper clothes, and told to sleep on a piece of cardboard on the balcony of her apartment. She died due to the long-term abuse, and unfortunately, Megan never received a proper burial.

Her body was burnt, and she was only 4 years old.

In a report by Singapura Berita Harian, the tragic abuse took place in 2020 when Megan’s unemployed mother, Foo Li Ping, who was 29 back then, forced her daughter to put her dirty diaper on her head. Foo was not the only one who took part in the abuse that lasted for 13 months.

Foo’s 38-year-old boyfriend, Wong Shi Xiang hit Megan with a pipe which dislocated Megan’s jaw.

The couple’s friend, Nouvelle, who often took drugs with them also stayed in the same unit of the apartment, but Nouvelle merely watched the abuse and did not do anything to stop the horrific act.

On February 21, 2020, Wong punched Megan in her stomach, causing her back to hit the wall hard, and Foo told him to stop because “it seemed too much for Megan.” When Megan stopped moving, the couple and Nouvelle tried to resuscitate the 4-year-old, but to no avail.

Foo did not contact the ambulance because she didn’t want to expose the drug abuse at home. According to Shin Ming Daily News, despite the constant abuse, Megan’s last words to her mum were,

“I’m sorry, Mummy.”

The trio left the apartment on February 23, 2020, and stayed in hotels for nearly three months, where they discussed and planned on how to dispose of the body.

During that time, Megan’s corpse was left in a plastic sheet and placed in a plastic box at home. The air-conditioning was also turned on to avoid the stench of a rotting corpse.

Megan’s body was burnt in a barrel on May 8, 2020, and the ashes were scattered into the sea.

The trio was arrested by the police in July 2020 following a police report lodged by Megan’s biological father, who was worried about her safety.

On February 28, 2025, Foo and Wong appeared in the High Court and pleaded guilty to the charges they faced. Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) Marcus Foo requested a prison sentence of between 15 to 20 years for Megan’s mother, for her serious neglect of responsibility towards her child.

Wong, on the other hand, faced a total of 15 charges, including a homicide charge for the murder of Megan.
