A team from the Malaysian Immigration Department (IMIGRESEN) carried out an eight-hour operation on December 10, starting at 11 am.

A 39-year-old Indonesian woman was arrested at a cafe in a hotel in Chukai, while her daughter was caught resting in their rented room in the same area, according to Berita Harian.

She called immigration to detain her daughter

During questioning, the Indonesian mom admitted that she and her daughter came to the country on a social visit pass back in June last year.

Not wanting to be separated from her 18-year-old daughter, she brought immigration officers to their home so her daughter could be detained too.

Out of fear that her daughter may be left alone in the country, she voluntarily led the officers to her place to ensure her daughter was taken in as well.

The mom and daughter are placed together

The mom and daughter are now being held together at the detention depot after getting caught in Ops Sapu and Selera in Chukai, Kemaman, yesterday.

According to state Immigration Director Mohd Yusri Mohd Nor, both are being investigated under Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for overstaying.

The mom has been sent to the Ajil Immigration Detention Depot for further investigation.

“We’ve also issued a notice to a 53-year-old local woman, believed to be the employer of the detained Indonesian woman, to appear at the state immigration office,” he said.

Mohd Yusri said the mom and daughter were part of the 46 foreigners caught for checks during an operation at seven places around Bandar Chukai, Kemaman.
