Living as women, it is unfortunate that we need to be extra vigilant in certain places and circumstances.

On 2 May, a woman in Sabah shared a harrowing experience of encountering a peeping tom.

According to a post by My Sabah on Facebook, the incident occurred on 29 April and the woman was travelling from Lahad Datu to Kota Kinabalu. She got to a petrol station at 12:50 am and stopped for a quick toilet break.

“I went to the women’s toilet and there were 2 cubicles. The one at the end was locked, so I went to the other one.”

However, when she was urinating, she saw something move in the next cubicle through the floor, as there were no water sounds, she found it weird.

The toilet cubicles were the type where there are openings from above and below, so when she looked up, she came face to face with a phone camera.

“I shouted: “HOIII!” Then I got ready and went out of the cubicle to the other one while asking for the person inside to come out.”

“When there was no response, I kicked the door until it opened and I was surprised to see a man in his 20s.”

She continued and said that the first thing that came out of his mouth was, “I will delete it, kak.” Hearing this, the woman snatched the man’s phone from his hands and called for her husband who was in the parking.

The couple brought the peeping tom to the police station and the video was given to the authorities to serve as proof.

Lastly, the woman says:

“I hope that this post goes viral so that there are no more women out there who will become victims like I did. Please be careful when using public toilets.”

We hope that the woman is okay after this ordeal.
