If you love visiting IKEA, mark your calendar when this outlet opens!
Swedish furniture giant, IKEA is opening a new store in Batu Kawan, Penang next month on March 14, reported Penang Kini. What’s special about this outlet is that besides being the fourth branch in the country and the first in the northern region of Peninsular Malaysia, it is also pretty massive in terms of space because it has a whopping 49 showrooms and more than 8,000 products that will be on display! Whoa!
A roof-capping event was held last Friday (15 Feb) where guests were treated to a traditional Swedish ceremony to celebrate the finished construction. IKEA used this opportunity to thank key partners, suppliers, and VIPs for their involvement in bringing about the new branch. They also started the countdown to the store opening while unveiling features of the new outlet.
With a retail space of over a staggering 43,600 square metres, IKEA Batu Kawan will feature 49 showrooms and more than 8,000 of the stylish and functional products we’ve all come to know and love. The showrooms will feature dozens of inspirational room settings, with a localised take that will appeal to Penangites and Northern Malaysians. Can’t wait to see them all!
Apart from the main store, IKEA Batu Kawan will also have a market, snack bars, and a restaurant that seats 756 people. They’ll even have an IKEA bakery with freshly baked bread and pastries! Yasss, more meatballs and comfort food!
A supervised children’s play area will also be available for parents to check in their kids while they do their shopping.
“We expect it will attract about 50,000 visitors per week after the opening,” said IKEA Malaysia store manager Arumugam Pathmalingam, The Edge Markets reported.
IKEA Batu Kawan will also be a shining beacon of green technologies, with applications of sustainable products integrated throughout the building including photo-voltaic solar panels, rainwater capture systems, energy recovery equipment, parking bays for eco-friendly vehicles and more.
With 1,950 parking bays and a crew of over 300 passionate people, IKEA Batu Kawan will begin operations at 10am on Thursday, 14 March 2019. Take note of these deets if you’re planning to visit soon!
