A heartbreaking video recently surfaced showing Malaysian social activist Abbe Hae and his team rescuing an elderly man who was allegedly abandoned by his family.
Before the rescue, Abbe took to Facebook to share his plan to visit the man’s home, posting several photos showing the property in poor condition.

Social activist rescues elderly man “locked up” in dilapidated Kelantan home
In his post, the leader of Pertubuhan Jejak Jalanan claimed that the elderly man had been “locked up” and neglected by his family members in Pasir Mas, Kelantan.
On TikTok, he shared footage of his team carefully carrying the frail man out of the house.

In the comments, Abbe expressed his shock at the moment the man’s grandchild opened the door to the kitchen where he had been confined.
He also noted that villagers described the elderly man as someone who had “taken very good care of his children and grandchildren” in the past.
Abbe wrote:
“I was left speechless when his grandchild opened the kitchen door where he had been locked inside. I was in tears in the car after seeing such a disturbing case.
“For your information, this elderly man took very good care of his children and grandchildren, according to the villagers.”

“His grandchild said he was locked in the room to prevent wandering due to dementia”
In a recent update, Abbe shared that he was contacted by a doctor from Pasir Mas Hospital, who informed him that a family member now wished to take the elderly man home.
Abbe was told that the family had prepared a proper room for the father in their residence.
“According to the doctor, the family member was the elderly man’s own child. He said his father would be placed in his daughter’s room, while the daughter would move elsewhere. Initially, I was supposed to send the man to a private care home near Kota Bharu,” Abbe explained.

Abbe noted the elderly man had a strong, unpleasant odour when they carried him out of the home

In his video, he also mentioned that villagers claimed they were previously unable to help because they were blocked by one of the family members.
Abbe shared:
“A woman identifying herself as the man’s granddaughter explained that the room was locked to prevent him from wandering off, as he is suffering from dementia.
“I will remain in contact with the relevant government authorities to regularly visit and monitor his well-being.”
