On January 17, a 47-year-old OKU rider was riding recklessly at a farmer’s market in Terengganu, crashing into a stall and getting reprimanded and beaten by 3 people.
Sinar Harian reported that the wife of the OKU rider was shocked by how her husband was treated, even though he had apologised several times.
“My husband kept apologising for his mistake”
Faridah Abdul Karim expressed her disbelief, noting that she never expected something like this to happen to her husband, Ahmad Nor Al Faizan Jusoh.
The 44-year-old went on to describe how the actions of a group of men who beat and kicked her husband were inhumane and heartless.
“I was devastated when I saw the viral video of my husband being beaten, kicked, dragged, and having fried noodles poured over his head. I can’t understand how they could do that, especially when my husband kept apologising for his mistake,” she said.
“He’s not an animal”
Faridah and her family were visited by Mohd Fadini Rahim, an Exco member of the UMNO Youth Movement. During the visit, Faridah and her kids had a video call with UMNO Youth Chief Datuk Dr Akmal Saleh.
Akmal reassured them that the movement was committed to making sure justice was served and that those responsible would be punished accordingly.
Faridah said incidents like this shouldn’t happen if people just acted reasonably.
“My husband apologised over and over, but they still beat him up. Even when he asked for water to wash his stinging eyes, they kicked him in the head again. Why treat my husband like that? He’s a human being, not an animal,” she said.
“We could’ve compensated the seller”
The mother of 5 said the incident, where her husband hit a food stall, could’ve been sorted out peacefully.
She also pointed out that if her husband really caused the accident on purpose, they would’ve paid for the damages and compensated the seller.
“There was no need to treat him like that. He doesn’t hurt people, he just speaks loudly. If they had told him they were going to call the police, he would’ve been scared. If they’d taken him to the station, it could’ve been handled calmly,” she said.
Faridah also thanked those who stepped in to stop her husband from getting hurt further.
