If you are a frequent user of skincare or makeup, then you probably have a lot of empty skincare bottles around the house and have no idea where or how to discard them. In fact, in Malaysia, there are several brands that encourage customers to recycle empty bottles with their own sustainability programs or recycling campaigns.

Let’s take a look at places you can recycle your used and empty skincare bottles, so you can take care of your skin and the environment at the same time!

1. L’OCCITANE’s Big Little Things

L’OCCITANE’s Big Little Things is a part of the brand’s effort towards reducing waste commitment. Users can recycle their empty skincare, beauty or haircare bottles in all L’OCCITANE stores across Malaysia, regardless of the brand. After registering your profile, you will receive one stamp for every full-sized empty bottle on your digital stamp card.

When you achieve a certain number of stamps, you are eligible to get complimentary gifts based on the reward program. Check out the full list of acceptable recyclables here.

2. Lancôme’s Sustainability Program

Other than offering products that are refillable and recyclable, Lancôme also encourages customers to return and recycle Lancôme’s full-sized empty bottles to Lancôme’s participating boutiques as part of its sustainability program.

The brand gives out its own products as complimentary gifts for customers who participate in the program. It accepts all beauty empties including skincare, makeup and fragrance products, but only those from its own brand Lancôme. Check out the details here.

3. Innisfree’s Playgreen Campaign

Innisfree’s Playgreen Campaign includes both eco-handkerchief and bottle-recycling programs. Over the past 10 years, the brand has collected over 800,000 bottles through its Empty Bottle Recycling Campaign and planted more than 860 pine trees for a better environment.

You can recycle any empty bottles of the Innisfree brand, excluding make-up or canned products. Just bring the bottles to any Innisfree stores to participate. Click here for the full details.

4. The Body Shop’s Bring Back Our Bottles Campaign

The Body Shop’s Bring Back Our Bottles Campaign allows customers to recycle empty bottles from The Body Shop and get rewarded according to the number of stamps collected (one bottle = one stamp). All stores in Malaysia participate in the program, excluding Johor Premium Outlet.

You can either pop them in one of the Return, Recycle, Repeat bins in-store or hand them over to the store assistants. The Body Shop also partners with the Sea Monkey Project to ensure the plastics are properly recycled and repurposed.

5. Mall’s recycling programs

Some beauty brands tend to have recycling programs from time to time in shopping malls as part of their pop-up events. For instance, Hada Labo’s ongoing recycling program where customers can bring any full-size skincare empty bottle in exchange for its lotion products. So do keep an eye out for such initiatives!

No matter which recycling program you want to join, please make sure to clean and dry your empty bottles well before recycling them. Let’s go green and do something for our earth.
