The Malaysian national hockey team made history at the Hockey 5s World Cup in Muscat, Oman recently by making it all the way to the final where they faced the Netherlands.
While Malaysia ultimately lost the final to the Dutch 5-2, it was still a historic success for the team, as it was the highest placement our country achieved in the sport of hockey!
The national team returned to Malaysia and was greeted with a hero’s welcome earlier this morning, with personnel from the Youth and Sports Ministry waiting at the gates of KLIA to congratulate and celebrate their historic achievement.
This includes Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh who waited until 5am at KLIA so that she could personally congratulate each one of Malaysia’s Hockey 5s World Cup squad.
Taking to her official Facebook account, Hannah shared several photos and a video of her greeting and congratulating the national heroes at KLIA.
The Youth and Sports Minister shared,
“5am in KLIA: Welcoming the return of the men’s hockey team from the Hockey 5s World Cup in Oman earlier this morning. This team successfully recorded the highest achievement in the sport of hockey in Malaysia.”
Hannah then announced that the hockey team would be given a special incentive of around RM80,000 and a reimbursement for their expenses for travelling to Oman.
Furthermore, the Youth and Sports Ministry has also requested that the Finance Ministry provide funds for development and other preparation for the hockey team to face a greater challenge at the upcoming World Cup 2028.
Hannah asserted that she also thanked the wives and families of the athletes who were also at KLIA for their sacrifices for our nation’s sports.

Speaking to WORLD OF BUZZ, a source at the Youth and Sports Ministry, Hannah Yeoh and the others from the Ministry waited at KLIA since 3.45am earlier today to congratulate the hockey team.
In the comments section of Hannah’s post, Malaysians congratulated the hockey team for their amazing achievement and hoped that the team could achieve many greater things in the future.
Besides that, many also thanked Hannah for being a very supportive Youth and Sports Minister, with many expressing that she’s one of the best to hold the portfolio.
