The Influenza A (H1N1) outbreak in Malaysia is getting a little scary considering a school in Teluk Intan, Perak has been forced to temporarily shut down in fear that their 550 students may get infected after 8 students in the school were tested positive with H1N1.

As according to The Star, Perak Education Committee chairman, Dr Abdul Aziz Bari said that the closure of Sekolah Menengah Sains Teluk Intan has been done according to the standard operating procedures in order to contain the outbreak.

“The school is currently conducting clean-up works, especially at its hostels,” he said.

Also, Berita Harian has added that 89 students in Johor have also tested positive for the virus, prompting schools to take measures.

The director of the Johor Education department, Azman Adnan has said that the department has issued instructions to disallow any students or school representatives from attending classes to prevent the virus from further spreading.

“So far in Johor, there is no need for closures of classes and schools, but we are still monitoring the situation,” he added.

Parents are urged to seek immediate medical assistance if they’re kids are experiencing H1N1 symptoms.
