The government has granted an exemption to all private vehicle owners for the renewal of their Motor Vehicle License (LKM) and Competent Driving License (CDL), effective February 1 to March 31.
Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong, in a Facebook post, shared on his page that drivers however, need to ensure that their vehicles have valid insurance coverage and show a copy of the protection certificate to traffic enforcement members if requested. He explained,
“Holders of LKM and CDL who have or will expire must renew their licenses within 30 days after the exemption period, which is until April 30, 2021.”
Ka Siong also said the exemption was to comply with standard operating procedures (SOP) set by the National Security Council (MKN) in an effort to reduce congestion in public places. However, no exemption is given to commercial vehicle owners and Vocational License holders (GDL and PSV).

This is because their related renewal services are still allowed to operate as necessary services during the period of the Movement Control Order (PKP). The exemption to renew LKM and CDL was implemented from March 25 to September 30 last year during the first PKP enforcement. Ka Siong at the same time reminded the public to be prudent drivers and comply with the SOP during the PKP period.
