Giant panda couple Xing Xing and Liang Liang celebrated their 17th birthday in a super cute fashion at Zoo Negara yesterday.
The couple has been at Zoo Negara’s Giant Panda Conservation Centre (GSPCC) since 2014 on a 10-year loan in conjunction with the 40th anniversary of bilateral ties between Malaysia and China.
Both Xing Xing and Liang Liang were born on 23 August 2006 at the Wolong Panda Centre in Sichuan, China.
In an Instagram post, Zoo Negara shared photos of the two pandas enjoying their birthday celebration, including happily munching on a special giant birthday cake made of fruits adorned with some flowers and the number 17. Aww so cute!
Zoo Negara wrote,
“To our fluffiest couple, we wish you a wonderful 17th birthday! Stay healthy, playful and cute like always!”

The giant panda couple, originally named Fu Wa and Feng Yi, have had 3 offspring while at Zoo Negara.
These include Nuan Nuan (born 18 August 2015), Yi Yi (born 14 January 2018) and Sheng Yi (born 30 May 2021). The eldest, Nuan Nuan, was sent back to China in 2017.
Speaking of which, Xing Xing and Liang Liang will also return to China once the 10-year loan ends next year. Aww, we’re gonna miss this cute fluffy couple!
