In an effort to assist Palestine through monetary contributions, many Malaysians have set up donation funds while entrepreneurs have promised certain percentages of their profits to the war-torn country.
Wanting to also participate in assisting, Former Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs), Datuk Dr Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri has decided to auction off an item that is dear to him, to support the Palestinian cause.
Taking to his Twitter account, he shared how he decided to auction off a Rolex watch gifted to him by the King of Saudi Arabia, King Salman Abdulaziz Al Saud back in 2017, which costs RM40,000.
In his post, he shared how he had received the luxury watch as a gift from the King of Saudi Arabia after he delivered a speech before the royal figure during his courtesy visit to Malaysia.
“I was contacted by the Saudi Arabian Embassy in Malaysia. There was a souvenir sent from the Saudi King to me. Then, I asked my officer, Dr. Aizam, to collect it for me. I did not open the gift box. It was kept in my office in Putrajaya until I was appointed as a Minister. When I held the position of Minister, the box was moved to my second office at the Kuala Lumpur Islamic Center Complex.”
“When I resigned as a Minister in 2021, the box was moved to my personal office. There, I opened it and wore it as a token of appreciation for the generous donation from the Saudi King. I honour the love of DYMM Al-Malik Salman bin Abdulaziz for this very meaningful gift. His Majesty’s order to always be simple, to prioritise the unity of the ummah and to dignify religion will always be embedded in my heart,” he wrote.
Hence, to uphold that order and celebrate Saudi Arabia’s donation of a billion dollars to Palestine every year, he decided to auction off the Rolex, with a starting price of RM40,000, to the highest bidder, with the proceeds going to the welfare of the Palestinian people.
“The proceeds of the auction will be fully donated to the welfare of the Palestinian people who are suffering there.”
Following the action, the highest bid, as of 9:25am this morning (31 October), is RM131,000.
Kudos to the former Religious Minister, for his generous effort towards assisting the Palestinian people in their time of need by bidding off something that most people wouldn’t part with, a luxurious gift from the King of Saudi Arabia.
