We’ve all seen many footage on Facebook of how foreigners drive like as if they own the road on our highways, and JPJ has come up with a plan to deal with such drivers.

According to The Star, the Road Transport Department (JPJ) has submitted a proposal to the Immigration Department to deport foreigners who constantly flout traffic rules in Malaysia.

“We were told that there are some foreigners who are repeat and habitual traffic offenders. This needs to be dealt with seriously. We cannot have people come to our country and flout our laws,” director-general of Immigration Department, Mustafar Ali said.

Here are the top four violations that foreigners often commit in Malaysia.

  • Speeding
  • Beating the red light
  • Driving without a license
  • Driving with an invalid road tax

Although the numbers are low, he said that the matter should still be taken seriously.

“Before we issue a repatriation order, we will get the JPJ and prosecutors to present their case. If they have a strong reason to ask the Immigration to revoke the person’s visa or permit, then we will,” Mustafar added.

Malaysia Employers Federation (MEF) also welcomed this move of deporting traffic violators because it will send a clear message to foreigners that the laws of Malaysia should not be taken lightly. “This is part of the conditions on their work permits,” MEF executive director Datuk Shamsuddin Bardan said.

Netizens applauded this initiative as well, since some of them had previously encountered rude drivers from our neighbouring country.

“A lot of Singaporeans would be in trouble if this proposal is implemented. They drive like maniacs on highways in Johor and simply have no respect for traffic rules in our country,” a netizen said.
