Salary cut to fix the state’s financial position

Abu Bakar, who is also Perlis BERSATU Chief, announced the salary cut after he was sworn in as the 11th Menteri Besar of Perlis today (29 December).

The Kuala Perlis assemblyperson explained that the decision reflects his commitment to the rakyat.

“This salary cut is an initial step I have taken as a sign of my commitment to serve the people and the state.”

“The measure is also part of efforts to stabilise the state’s financial position while helping to ease the people’s economic burden,” he said after clocking in for his first day at the Menteri Besar’s Office, Seri Putra Complex, reported Berita Harian.

The Perlis political crisis

His appointment was made following the Perlis political crisis, which saw eight assemblymen reportedly submit statutory declarations (SDs) to the Raja of Perlis to withdraw their support for the incumbent Menteri Besar, Mohd Shukri Ramli.

Abu Bakar, who previously held the position of Perlis Tourism and Culture Exco, also said that this is one of the sacrifices that the state government has made to develop the state. The move will be reviewed when the economic situation improves in the future.
