Previously, we shared how football fans of the Malaysian and Singaporean national teams got into a brawl at the Bandar Tasik Selatan LRT station after the 2024 ASEAN Championship Group A match, which saw Singapore advancing to the semi-finals thanks to a 0-0 draw.
Well, it looks like more controversies have emerged in the aftermath of the match, as a couple of photos showing football fans in Malaysia posing with upside-down Singapore flags have gone viral online.
Football fans in Malaysia pose with upside-down Singapore flags they allegedly stole
In one of the photos, which was shared by the Hooligans Culture Facebook page, a group of football fans can be seen holding two Singapore flags upside-down at an undisclosed location.
In the caption, Hooligans Culture said that the group is allegedly the Casual Malaysia/ Malaysia National Frontline (M.N.F.) and claimed that they had stolen the Singapore flags after the ASEAN Championship match at Bukit Jalil National Stadium in Kuala Lumpur.
A closer look at the photo revealed that several individuals also showed their middle fingers to the camera, while an individual made the same lewd gesture to the Singapore flag.
Meanwhile, the second photo was posted on the r/SingaporeRaw subreddit and also showed a group of individuals posing in front of a Singapore flag.
The caption of the Reddit post reads,
“Malaysian fans pose with the Singapore flag after getting knocked out in the AFF cup last night”
However, it is unknown whether it was done by the same group of men seen in the first photo.
As of the time of writing, no official statements have been made by either the Malaysian or Singaporean authorities on the viral photos.
