Two food vendors in Malacca who disguised themselves as PDRM officers and allegedly raped a university student pleaded not guilty at the Sessions Court yesterday (May 30).

Muhamad Shafiq Asyraf Jasarudin, 23, and Muhamad Nazhim Razali, 29, were accused of raping a 19-year-old woman inside a car outside a convenience store on May 22, between 9 PM and 10 PM, at Taman Bukit Rambai Utama in Malacca.

They were charged under Section 375B of the Penal Code, which provides for a minimum prison sentence of 10 years and a maximum of 30 years upon conviction.

The two accused are also facing charges under Section 384 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34, for allegedly blackmailing the victim and a 20-year-old man by threatening to harm them unless they handed over RM3,000. The victims ultimately gave them RM50.

The offense was allegedly committed at a convenience store in Taman Nirwana, Malacca, on the same date and time.

In addition, they were charged with jointly impersonating civil servants—specifically, police officers—in an open area at Pantai Klebang, Central Malacca, on the same date and time. This charge falls under Section 170 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34, which carries a maximum sentence of two years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both, upon conviction.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Wardah Ishhar did not offer bail but proposed RM60,000 each if the court exercised its discretion, along with additional conditions prohibiting the accused from contacting or harassing the victim.

Lawyer Kent Tan Chow Teng, representing Muhamad Nazhim, appealed for a lower bail, citing that his client is single, supports his ailing parents, and operates a roadside food stall.

Meanwhile, Muhamad Shafiq Asyraf, represented by lawyer K. Shareveen, also appealed for a lower bail, stating that his client sells takoyaki and supports his wife and two young children, according to Sinar Harian.

The court granted bail of RM13,000 each, with the condition that both accused report to the nearest police station monthly. The case has been set for document submission on July 7.
