Blue-coloured fish exist!
A fisherman in Alaska, United States recently caught a fish with red skin and blue flesh that looks right out of a fairy tale! According to reports, the person who caught the fish is named Joe Chmeleck, he shared his catch on Facebook and the post went viral.
The fish’s red and orange skin and turquoise-blue flesh make it look magical and stunning. While the fish may look weird and poisonous, it is surprisingly safe to consume!
Chmeleck even cooked it up in a video, and said the fish tasted fantastic. The fish turned into a light blue, almost entirely white colour after being cooked.
According to Alaska Department of Fish and Game biologist Donald Arthur, as reported by Hawaii News Now, the blue colour is caused by a green bile pigment called Biliverdin. Scientists are still unsure why fish produce the pigment. It could be a result of UV radiation, diet, or genetics, as stated by the biologist.
