But it looks like the party might soon be over for Malaysians!

In a report by Berita Harian, the Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism (KPDNKK) have been instructed to examine fidget spinners to see if there are potential dangers to the highly-popular toy.

Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin, minister of KPDNKK, has stated that a sample of the fidget spinner will be sent over to the Scientific and Industrial Research Institute (SIRIM) for examination.

“This is a short-term solution to determine that fidget spinners are not harmful to consumers in the country.”

Despite the growing popularity of fidget spinners, many NGOs have voiced out their concerns about the potential dangers of these toys. Many of them have pointed out that they could be modified into weapons.

According to The Star, the Ministry of Education has also begun looking into these toys, waiting for reports from stakeholders before coming to a decision on whether or not to ban them from schools.

Education Minister, Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid said that the fidget spinner is still very new and they are still not aware of the full effects of its use.

“It is a new gadget and there are numerous views on its use. We need to wait for a full report from the authorities and stakeholders before discussing it in a committee at the ministerial level.”

With all of this investigation going on, it won’t come as a surprise if these gadgets end up getting banned. Hopefully fidget spinners won’t turn into another Pokemon Go crisis again.

We had no idea that these seemingly harmless gadgets could hold so much potential danger! What do you think? Is this all just a big overreaction or is this a necessary precaution for authorities to take?
