In his latest live televised speech today (23rd April 2020), Malaysian Defence Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob has stressed yet again that nobody is allowed to return back to their home villages for Ramadan from the city.

As reported by Astro Awani, the Defence Minister has said that the previously mentioned applications for traveling across state borders during MCO only applies to people who are stuck in villages and wish to return to the city.

Regardless of which, the matter is still not set in stone and open to further discussions, including talks with the Ministry of Health. This was mentioned to address any confusion that people may have had from the previous announcement regarding applications for traveling during MCO, which still remains forbidden.

“Some may be confused… for those already living in the city and wish to return to their home states, that is forbidden as many people would then want to return for Ramadan.

“In reference to what I mentioned yesterday, only parties that are stranded in their hometowns after the MCO period was enforced two months ago, we may allow them to travel back into the city.” he said.

Approvals are still subjected to final discussions with the Ministry of Health, the Royal Malaysian Police, and the National Security Council after the final list of applications are obtained. Applicants may receive word about the status of their application at the very soonest by 1st May 2020.

What do you guys make of this development?
