Children can now leave their homes to play in playgrounds, dine in restaurants and accompany their parents to shopping malls, said Defence Minister, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri in a live press conference held in Putrajaya yesterday (17th June).

“Parents will not be punished for bringing their children along to playgrounds, restaurants or shopping malls. But they are advised against heading to crowded areas or confined spaces where social distancing cannot be observed,” said Ismail Sabri in a statement recorded by Astro Awani and NST.

Parents should be wary and mindful of bringing their kids to crowded places as this puts them at risk of contracting the Covid-19 virus. Even though there are currently no regulations that restrict children from going out Ismail Sabri advised parents to keep this high-risk group at home away from environments that would put their health in jeopardy.

The minister added that the SOPs – social distancing, wearing face masks and using hand sanitisers – must be followed at all times seeing as playgrounds and malls are opening up for public use.

“Parents have to care for their own children’s safety,” said Ismail Sabri as a word of caution to parents who are planning on bringing their kids out of the house.
