The local fire department has managed to find the dead body of Mr. Shukri about 1 nautical mile (1852m) from the Penang Bridge where he was said to have jumped.
Mr. Shukri first made news when he left a long and heartbreaking suicide note on Facebook, voicing out his frustrations at the “evil government” on how they punished him for selling “cheap cigarettes”, which we have covered here.
The motorcycle, slippers, backpack and note found on the bridge have been confirmed to belong to Mr. Shukri. He was believed to have jumped at around 9am last Tuesday.
While many expressed their sympathy for his suicide, others speculated that there was a probability that he may have faked his own death.
However, it was just confirmed that Mr Sukri did indeed commit suicide after search and rescue found his lifeless body floating in the river.
Operations Commander of the Fire and Rescue Department, Isharuddin Ismail has stated that the body of the deceased was sent to the Sungai Bakap Hospital for a post mortem.
There is still no word from both the fire department and the local police if they suspect foul play. Friends of the deceased also have yet to be able to contact members of Mr. Shukri’s nuclear family.
