We’re usually disgusted to see rats on the street, but push your feelings aside now because you could be rewarded RM3 for every rat caught at Jinjang Utara morning market, Kepong.

DBKL announced the news yesterday (4 May) that a booth will be set up at the market to accept captured (live) rats every day from 9am to 11am until 10 May. You have like five days left!

The market traders were the ones who requested for this programme to be carried out in order to control the population of rats in that area. What a great move to make the environment a better place!

So far, only live rats are accepted by DBKL, but according to The Star, Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng would propose for dead rats to be allowed as well.

One hawker commented that the infestation of rats could be caused by clogged drains. Guess there’s more work to be done other than capturing rats, huh?

He said,

“I have seen rats that are as big as cats, and they are more active at dusk.”

A DBKL source revealed that similar programmes had been carried out at Pudu, Cheras and Keramat markets. Instead of RM3, they offered RM2 and traps were provided as well. But because not all traps were returned, now DBKL lets people catch the rats through their own means.

If you wish to earn some pocket money, hurry up because the programme will be ending on 10 May!

Pest infestations are a hassle to handle, so let’s keep our environment clean to avoid that!
