The founders of popular Singaporean-based Youtube channel, Night Owl Cinematics (NOC), took to their channel yesterday (31st May), to announce the shocking news of their divorce after nearly ten years of being together.
Known as one of the most successful Youtube channels in Singapore, NOC has garnered nearly one million subscribers with a vast majority of their followers being fans of the Food-King series.
Co-Founders, Ryan Tan and Sylvia Chan, have produced a variety of videos over the years starring locals that have come to be familiar favourites among NOC fans. However, the two people that fans hold dear to their hearts are Ryan and Sylvia, who were even dubbed as “Singapore’s Youtube power couple”, according to Mothership.sg.
Shocking Announcement
In the heartbreaking video, the founders announced that they had actually divorced in March but didn’t announce it to the world until now due to personal reasons and the magnitude of how such news would affect fans of the channel.
A common denominator as to why the two decided to call it quits on their marriage was due to how working together strained their relationship as lines between being a romantic couple and working partners frequently blurred.
As Sylvia put it in the video, “how do I go and rant to my husband Ryan, about my business partner, Ryan?” As for Ryan, he spoke of how the couple kept prioritising the needs of their company and employees before their marriage. They even went as far as helping their employees through their own personal issues before addressing the problems in their relationship.
Married Young
The couple also addressed how they met and married at a very young age without anticipating how they would have grown into different people as they continued to age. Ryan said how he realised the Youtube spotlight was not for him as he didn’t like to be the centre of attention.
Nonetheless, the near-45 minute video wasn’t all sad. While Ryan did shed a few tears here and there, the couple recalled many sweet memories together. Ryan even said if there was one thing he could change about their marriage, he would’ve married Sylvia now instead of all those years ago.
While this news is heartbreaking, the two are still great friends and business partners. They even acknowledged that their relationship now is better than it was when they were still married a few months ago. They ask for understanding and privacy from their fans during this time.
