Did you know that besides riding in a car amidst an entourage of blacked out cars and police vehicles, Malaysian ministers are also usually reserved a lift all to themselves when in public spaces.

For example, if there was a conference taking place in a building and the minister needs to get to the venue by lift, the authorities would usually dedicate one of the lifts in the building to that minister.

No one else would be able to use the lift for the time being and this is so that that’re no hiccups in the minister’s journey at all.

No special treatment

However, recently, Fahmi Fadzil, Minister of Communications and Digital shared that he has no interest to be like other ministers.

“I don’t want a lift reserved for me. Anyone and everyone also can use,” he said yesterday at the Ministry of Communication and Digital Monthly Assembly.

He also urged Malaysians to just treat him like any other normal person. He said, “If we meet, and I invite you to take the lift with me, don’t be shy. Join me.”

“And if you have anything to tell me, take that chance to do so,” he added.

“I’m just a normal person. I don’t eat people, and I don’t eat (take) bribes,” he joked.

The only exception

Before he ended, Fahmi highlighted that the only exception to his request should be when he’s maybe five minutes away from arriving at the venue.

“Let’s say I’m arriving in 5 minutes. Then yes, do reserve it. But the rest of the time, anyone can use it,” he stated.
