While Tom Hanks played a fictional character who lived in the airport for months in “The Terminal”, a woman, believed to be a Chinese national, has allegedly been staying at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) for a whole year.

A couple of videos circulating online show the woman sitting on a bench, surrounded by trolleys carrying her belongings.

In the videos circulating on Threads, a person was heard claiming that the Chinese woman has been staying at the airport for a long period, enjoying the free WiFi connection and other facilities.

Moreover, the woman was seen resting in the waiting area while scrolling on her phone.

The psychological toll of living in an airport for a year?

In another video, the woman, wearing sunglasses, black leggings, and a crop top, was seen arguing with other visitors at the airport. An elderly person was also seen attempting to calm her down.

The Thread user claimed that after staying in the airport for over a year, she had succumbed to the mental strain of her situation and questioned who should be responsible for such a matter.

The circulating videos have prompted a massive debate online, with social media users questioning how authorities could be unaware of the woman’s alleged prolonged stay in the airport. At the time of writing (23 December), the authorities have not responded to the matter.

WORLD OF BUZZ has since reached out to the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS), but has yet to receive a response.

UPDATE: The authorities have since released a statement on the incident.
