In the working world, it is perfectly normal for you to be expected to have certain achievements in order to meet the set requirements. This would include factors such as completing a certain degree or having a certain skill.

However, it seems that even students amongst themselves set requirements for small things such as to join a group to complete a class assignment.

A Malaysian student named Emeer recently took to Twitter to share an experience he had when trying to join a group with other students for a class assignment.

In a screenshot of a conversation he had with another student, Emeer asked if he could join their group to work together on the assignment.

However, he was quickly shut down when the person he was talking to said that they “have a requirement of CGPA 3.5 and above” for people to join the group.

“To maintain a good level of performance.”

After finding this out, Emeer was quick to steer away from the group. But, the person then asked Emeer about his CGPA.

Let me know your CGPA. We can see if it can balance the group,” said the person.

“Are you applying for a job???”

Emmer shared the screenshot of the conversation on Twitter where it has amassed plenty of attention. The tweet currently sits on over 14,700 likes and 6,839 retweets.

Netizens took to the comments section to call out the student for being discriminatory.

“If I was you, I would reply, ‘double standard, huh?’ Do they think that they’re that great to require a good CGPA to recruit members of a group,” commented a netizen.

A number of Malaysians pointed out that it’s people like these that will struggle to adapt to an actual working environment.

Meanwhile, some users even made fun of the person’s grammatical errors.

Does CGPA even mean anything?

A handful of netizens also took to the comments section to express their belief that a high CGPA doesn’t actually mean very much.

“Believe it or not some high CGPA kids be stealing the idea of others most of the time. A lot of them can speak well but don’t know how to do work,” said a user.
