Considering the constant floods in Kuala Lumpur and various other places in Malaysia, Prime Minister Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim has announced that he has ordered an immediate allocation of RM150 million to be distributed to local authorities and the Irrigation and Drainage Department (JPS) to start cleaning work on drains and rivers in affected areas.
“Local authorities and residents need to work together to ensure clogged drains and ditches that result in flash floods can be dealt with immediately,” he said.
Hence, from the RM150 million, a total of RM50 million will be provided to local authorities for the cleaning and upgrading of drains and ditches, while local authorities and JPS will be allowed to implement procurement of up to RM1 million through quote methods or through votes by G1 to G3 registered contractors.
He said this during the presentation of Budget 2025 in Parliament today (October 18).
Additionally, RM600 million will be provided to the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) for flood preparations.
