Last year, Mattel released a Barbie doll in conjunction with the Lunar New Year that took everyone’s breath away.
This Chinese New Year, they’re aiming to stun once again, with their 2nd doll in the series and this time, they’ve brought in reinforcements!
Barbie took to their official Facebook page to showcase 2022’s Barbie Lunar New Year Doll, with her dress and accessories designed by China’s 1st and only officially recognised couturier, Guo Pei.
“For many Asian communities around the world, Lunar New Year festivities bring an occasion to honor one’s heritage and wish for good fortune in the year to come”, they shared.
In celebration with the occasion, they partnered with Guo Pei to bring their vision of the Barbie Lunar New Year Doll to life.
The global fashion icon wears a traditional Chinese dress in riveting red, symbolising good fortune and happiness.
“With unique golden phoenix details representing grace and a water motif for wealth and resilience, Guo Pei’s dazzling design is rich with cultural symbolism, bring joy and authenticity to the Lunar New Year holiday with Barbie”, they added.
Guo Pei’s signature embroidery detailing and the golden hairpiece both celebrate the mythological marvel that is the Phoenix.
