Everyone’s favourite social deception game, Among Us, will be getting a virtual reality adaptation. The game’s VR adaptation will be available on Meta Quest, PlayStation VR, and SteamVR. It is currently being developed by Schell Games, the company responsible for creating the acclaimed I Expect You To Die series. However, there’s no exact release date for the game announced yet but a trailer for it was shown at the 2021 Game Awards.
As reported by The Verge, although the adaptation will have a first-person 3D experience instead of a third-person 2D one, it will still stay true to the core mechanics of the original multiplayer game. From the trailer, we can see a 3D room from the point of view of a player where he is interacting with a keypad before being attacked by a crewmate who is an imposter.

Launched for PC and mobile platforms in 2018 and Nintendo Switch in 2020, the non-VR version will also be available for Xbox and PlayStation on December 14th. The VR adaptation is a reality also thanks to a partnership formed with consulting firm Robot Teddy, which is overseeing the game’s jump to new platforms.
If you ever played social deduction games like Mafia or Werewolf, you will know that Among Us is inspired by these games. However, this is not the first time a game with similar mechanics adapted to VR. Werewolves Within released by Ubisoft back in 2016 took on the formula and was played out in VR.
Although Among Us might experience a decrease of players recently, this announcement might bring back players to experience their favourite game from a whole different perspective.
