If you’re drunk, or when you know you have alcohol in your system, PLEASE keep your hands off the wheel. Drunk driving is not just an offense but ALSO dangerous.

A 17-year-old in Pune, India, was recently involved in a drunk driving accident which claimed 2 lives. Based on the police investigation, the minor was “granted access” to the Porsche by his grandfather, who gave him the key and credit card so he could celebrate the board exam results with his friends.

“The grandfather said he never took into consideration the consequences of letting his grandson, a minor drive the car,” the police said.

In India, it is ILLEGAL to drive under the age of 18. The teen was detained by the police after crashing into a motorcycle. He was sent to the Juvenile Justice Board, but the court didn’t take long to release the teen on bail.

As punishment, he was sentenced to 15 days of community work, participated in a road regulations study course, and submitted a 300-word essay.

The Deputy Chief Minister was enraged by the court’s decision, and the Pune Police station wanted the court to treat the teen like an adult and not with such leniency.

As of now, police arrested,

  • The teen’s father for allowing him to drive despite knowing his son was drunk
  • Vendors who sold alcohol to the teen.

In India, the legal drinking age is 18, and back in 2015, the country amended its laws so that minors aged 16 and above could be tried like adults for serious crimes. The teen is 17 years and 8 months old, so legally, he is fit to be tried as an adult, as reported by Times of India and The Indian Express.

We hope justice will be served for the victims, and this shall serve as a reminder to all drunk drivers out there.
