Several months and a few attempts later, former Prime Minister Najib Razak’s application for leave to review his SRC International case was dismissed. For that, his 12-years prison sentence is maintained.
Najib is not going home, and his daughter, Yana Najib took to her Instagram yesterday (March 31) to express her sadness about the verdict.
“Sadly, the chair remains empty tonight”
Just last month, Yana said that his father got the justice he deserved following his acquittal from the 1MDB case, and she dubbed this a promising start. During the judicial review yesterday, Yana and her family probably thought Najib would return home the same night where they can, once again, have dinner again together during buka puasa.
That obviously wasn’t the case. In her Instagram story, Yana said that her father was already thinking about what to have for buka puasa, only for the family to be disappointed by the verdict again.
Despite so, Yana remained optimistic.
“It’s okay Daddy. Think of it as our reunion being delayed. We’ll get there.”
Yana and her family are not the only ones crying over Najib’s verdict. Yesterday, 50 supporters of Najib who gathered outside the courtroom to show support also expressed their disappointment.Â
In one of her Instagram posts, Yana apologised to Najib’s fans for not being able to bring her father home.
“I return home empty-handed today. I’ve always prayed for another chance to hold his hand again and to hug him. The house remains empty tonight.”
Is this really the end for Najib?
Najib’s lawyer, Mohamad Shafee Abdullah said that this is not the end of Najib’s journey. The former PM is expected to file his second review application following the Federal Court’s decision
The royal pardon from Agong and the petition before the United Nations Human Rights Council’s Working Group on Arbitrary Detention now come into play for Najib’s legal team.
If Najib does not obtain the royal pardon, his prison sentence will be maintained.
