The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) believes that a low explosive caused the hole in the roof of a Perodua Myvi parked in front of a house in Padang Jawa, Shah Alam in the early morning of 17 February 2023. Furthermore, the explosives were likely made by an individual with knowledge of bombs.

As reported by BERNAMA, Shah Alam district police chief ACP Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim revealed that the car owner was in the living room of his house when he was informed by his wife of the explosion. At around 3.50am on 17 February, his wife saw some sparks on top of the Myvi and when he checked the situation outside his house, he discovered there was smoke everywhere. The victim, a 32-year-old food delivery rider subsequently called the police to report the incident.

Investigations by the police revealed that the Myvi had a hole in the roof believed to be from the explosion as the metal edges of the hole bent inward. Mohd Iqbal asserted,

“Checks on the car did not reveal any weapon or foreign object, and according to the witness, a neighbour, he heard a loud explosion at around 3.50 am,”

Meanwhile, the Selangor contingent headquarters forensics team and the Bukit Aman bomb disposal unit checked the site of the explosion and found that the explosives were a type of low explosive. Moreover, it was likely made by an individual with knowledge of bombs.

The Shah Alam district police chief further elaborated that the technique used to cause the explosion was through ignition as PDRM found a fuse that was used to start it. The police have recorded statements from 10 witnesses and currently, the case is being investigated under Section 436 of the Penal Code.
