Despite all the drama surrounding it, the Jay Chou concert proceeded in full swing last night (January 15) with the Bukit Jalil stadium filled to the brim with fans.

But with that many people AND another event (the Petronas Malaysia Open 2023) happening at the Axiata Arena, disaster was only imminent without proper management of the shared space.

Netizen @hannagyeongs took to their Twitter profile to showcase how Jay Chou concert goers were apparently allowed to double park, blocking in the cars that were there for the badminton tournament that ended at 6:30pm.

They wrote, “HORRIBLE parking situation at the Bukit Jalil stadium last night (January 15). Two events were going on (the Petronas Malaysia Open 2023 and the Jay Chou concert) and the carpark management allowed cars to DOUBLE PARK. The badminton event ended at 6:30pm and cars couldn’t leave despite paying RM20!”

Badminton fans had arrived at the location earlier in the day as their event started at 11am, whereas Jay Chou fan arrived later in the day as their concert was at night.

“The Petronas Malaysia Open 2023 finals at the Axiata Arena started at 11am and so the badminton fans came earlier. The event lasted until about 6:30pm and almost everyone left the arena by 7pm. When we got to the parking, it was COMPLETELY full. Cars we parked in the LEGAL BOXES were blocked,”

“WHY did the carpark management allows cars to keep coming in when the carpark was already full? WHY DID THEY ALLOW DOUBLE PARKING even though they knew there were 2 separate events ongoing and the badminton event at Axiata Arena was DEFINITELY going to end before the Jay Chou concert even began?”

What made the situation worse is that, despite leaving their contact details, many Jay Chou fans refused to leave the stadium to move their cars.

“Most of the cars which double parked left their numbers, but most of them didn’t want to come down claiming they were already in the concert. Then what? We don’t know who to blame, some were screaming at the carpark workers but that too didn’t fruit any results. They said they would tow the cars which double parked,”

“But that’s unfair to EVERYONE, to the Axiata guests forced to wait hours for towing to come and to the concert guests who would have their cars forcefully towed after PAYING for parking and being allowed to double park,” @hannagyeongs added.

While @hannagyeongs ultimately managed to leave at around 8pm, as the vehicle owner behind them agreed to move their car, others were not so lucky and had to wait until the very end of the night to leave.

Ultimately, the stadium parking management should not have allowed more cars to enter and park if the lot was already full.

We genuinely hope that the management can rectify this problem considering this won’t be the last time two events happen at the stadium during the same day.

Were you present at the stadium yesterday for either one of the events? Do feel free to share your experiences in the comment section.
