We’re certain that most of us had probably received a scam call or scam message in the past week.

It seems that scam occurrences are getting more common nowadays and frankly, it’s worrying.

However, it’s not just us that gets added to random groups on Whatsapp, even ministers face their own share as well!

In a recent tweet, Communications minister Fahmi Fadzil shared that he was recently added to a scam group.

Fahmi Fadzil

The group was named “TikTok traffic group” and it seems that they wanted to pay people to watch, like and follow certain videos. The number that created the group and added the minister is an Indonesian number.

A person with the name “TikTok Jane” then started explaining the aim of the group.

After they were done, Fahmi Fadzil who has been reading everything sent a message that was deleted by one of the admins.

“I have alerted MCMC and PDRM as to the existence of this scam group,” he added.

He then sent a poster asking people to contact the national scam response centre by calling 997.

Soon after those messages, the minister was removed from the group.

This whole exchange was definitely quite entertaining. However, it begs the question of how these scammers get our phone numbers and personal information.

If you ever find yourself falling victim to a scam, be sure to follow the instructions on this poster.
