With inflation in the picture and the continuous hike in prices, people continue to debate whether the prices of goods have started to become unaffordable.

This time, we’re going to talk about the price of one of the best local dishes – Nasi Lemak. Recently, a Nasi Lemak vendor in Penang has had enough with the aunties who constantly complained about the selling price of his Nasi Lemak. For a serving of Nasi Lemak with the condiments and generous portion of meat, he sells it at only RM5. But when complaints about the high price of the food flooded in, he decided to take it up to his TikTok account and sent a message to the fellow “haters”.

In his 5-minutes clip, he took the time to compare an RM5 portion and an RM3 portion of Nasi Lemak. While both prices come with meat, it is obvious that the one that is sold at RM5 comes with a more generous portion of meat.

“RM3 is undeniably cheap but look at the portion of the dish.”

He continued and said, “to those of you who said RM5 is expensive, just look at the portion of the meat. Do you know the price for a kilogram of meat?”

In his TikTok clip, he also said that he understands if people opt for cheaper Nasi Lemak, but it grinds his gears to constantly listen about how “expensive” his Nasi Lemak is, despite the generous portion of meat. He also asked the people to spread the message to fellow consumers who think that he blindly increased the price of his food.

“It’s among the cheapest”

His post has gained the attention of many Malaysians, who mostly agreed that his selling price is reasonable and nowhere near expensive.

“That’s cheap. It’s usually RM6 and it’s hard to get it for RM5.”

“Patience, brother. Wish all the best to you.”

“The price is really reasonable.”

“The price is fine to me. Reasonable. A lot of meat for RM5.”

Another user also agreed with the price and reminded the seller to ignore the negative feedback on the price.

The struggle with the hike in prices is real, but do you think RM5 for that portion of Nasi Lemak is too expensive?
