A few preachers & politicians have recently spoken against the necessity of having concerts in Malaysia as they claimed that it might open more doors to societal problems.

Weeks after Billie Eilish’s concert in Bukit Jalil, the concert issue is still being disputed.

Recently, another local preacher, Ustaz Don Daniyal expressed his thoughts about the concert culture in the country. As opposed to what other preachers said, Ustaz Don said that it’s unwise to immediately conclude that attending concerts is sinful and Haram.

“If we say that a concert is haram, then is a Nasyid concert haram too?” he asked rhetorically.

Ustaz Don said that relevant authorities should come up with guidelines for the Muslim community when it comes to attending concerts, instead of outright banning such events.

“Outright banning is just not right as Malaysia is a pluiralistic country. We should also look at the context of boosting the economy and attracting tourists.”

The preacher assured people that he wasn’t trying to muddle the rights and wrong, but that he just wanted to express his opinions rationally. To him, guidelines for the Muslim community is of the utmost importance when it comes to organising a concert.

Guidelines are not the only thing that Ustaz Don highlighted. During an interview, Ustaz Don placed an emphasis on the income of the performers if concerts were to be banned in the future.

“It’s their main sources of income. So how are they going to earn for a living if concerts are cancelled?”

Ustaz Don then continued and said, “It’s easy for you to tell them to look for other jobs, but not when it happens to you.”

During the interview, he also reminded people not to have any biases as the performers and the preachers have to be united as they need each other to solve issues.

Not long ago, another preacher, PU Syed made his stand against concerts clear when he expressed his desire to see Blackpink’s concert get cancelled.

Regardless, do you agree with Ustaz Don’s take on the matter?
